Despite the global climate change movement taking a backseat to the immediate threat of COVID-19 this year, business sustainability startup LUP Global says it’s experienced a surge in interest from prospective clients.
That’s according to Noreen Kam, the Australian Founder of the company, which offers businesses a long-term approach to circular asset life cycle management and sustainable CAPEX procurement.
LUP launched in 2017 with an aim to help companies have a better impact on the planet to create closed – ‘loop’ supply chains focused on circular economies around the world.
Since then Kam says the growing climate change movement has seen a surge in prospective companies interested in better managing their assets in order to become more sustainable and responsible corporate citizens.
She says while COVID-19 has somewhat removed sustainability issues as a first order priority, the trajectory has not changed in the longer term, and as a result LUP has seen growing interest.
“In terms of the global economy, climate change issues were definitely front and centre before the pandemic,” she says.
“With the impact of COVID-19, that’s obviously reduced and it’s become more of a secondary issue.
“However, once the world successfully works out how to manage COVID-19, climate and sustainability issues are going to become front of people’s minds again.
“Even through the pandemic, I think businesses realise more than ever, that they can’t keep operating the way that they have been, that it isn’t a sustainable way of operating in the linear model.
“So interest in our services has grown rapidly even during the pandemic”
Kam believes the next 18 months will be pivotal in showcasing the benefits of circular economy principles, as disrupted supply chains caused by COVID-19 have revealed limitations in the globalised model.
“Through sustainably managing assets and products we can still control what happens within our local communities, lessening the reliance on global supply chains, and at the same time pushing us towards a more sustainable world.”
